Natali Del Conte: Returning My iPhone Today

  • Jones Johnson · 1 year ago
I'd probably do the same exact thing, even with the annoying restocking fee. "Chapped my hide." That's new to me. I like that one.

You misled me with the title, you should work for Fox news! For me a phone is first and foremost a communication device, then a mini web surfer and finally a multi-media device. I just can't see dumping 900 Euro on something I can't email as fast on, doesn't get as good of reception and has slower data than the most basic of phones over here (it's Edge is so much slower than even the Blackberry) just so I can say I have an iphone. I'll stick with my 16gig ipod touch and Blackberry until iphone joins the modern world and gets a real keypad.

Having the 16gig sure is nice though, I'm glad I forked out the extra 75 Euro.
  • drew · 1 year ago
Oops, that was supposed to be 500 (not 900) Euro and probably about 750 for the 16gig.

Dude... that is bullshit man. Honestly I prefer Apple's tech and computers over just about anyone elses...but the fact that they continually destructively upgrade EVERYTHING is complete and utter junk. I've never seen a company so comfortable with grandfathering just about every product they have, meanwhile cannibalising what is already on the market just to make a 100 dollar profit on the next big thing...much like the ipod touch and the shift to the 16 gig versions...what a crock...Apple is all about adopters, never about legacy...piles and piles of plastic rubble now useless...but at least it looks nice in your family room right?...bastards!

    Hi Natali,
I think that Steve delayed announcing the 16 GB iPhone to avoid cannibalizing sales of the 8 GB model. He obviously knew that the 16 GB model was coming, but why not delay the announcement to get a few more weeks of sales?

Also, you may want to wait until later this year for the arrival of the 3G iPhone. I know that getting anything other than an iPhone would be tough, but waiting will save you from kicking yourself again for not holding out. Furthermore, Apple may do another capacity increase in the meantime meaning that you may get high speed internet access and even more storage space. However, I know that delayed gratification is tough!

I don't think Apple can be the ONLY company that can be accused of grandfathering their products. All computer companies do it -- even digital camera companies. Just try to buy the point-and-shoot digital camera you bought 1-2 years ago! And the only difference (I hope) between the 4, 8, and now 16 Gb iPhones is just capacity. Please don't make it sound like now that there's a 16 Gb iPhone that the 8 or 4 Gb iPhones are ready for vacuum-sealed glass domes of your electronic museum... They still work fine.

I liked that comment about having the iPhone join "the modern world" by having a "real keypad". Yet isn't the industry all about innovation and not being contemporary? After all, can your thumbboard change to European formats on the push of a button? Can it vanish so you can show pictures of your vacation to Madrid in larger format? And there were protestors of the thumbboards too when they were first introduced. Maybe thumbboard phones and devices should "join the modern world" and have a full-size, full-stroke keyboard. After all, how could anyone possibly type on things that resemble little Chicklets? ;-)

That said, I want a 16 Gb iPhone!!! Oh well, that's the nature of the biz. Buy when you need and not when you want. I have no regrets (until I see what the SDK programmers write for the thing), but when that v2 iPhone comes out... look out debit card.

Hey Natali, nice to see you're getting used to the Apple, and your show looks great. Oh, and why brother with the iPhone, you can get the iTouch with 32G for a mere $499 US. and you don't have to deal with AT&T.

Personally, I'm avoiding the iPhone although I must admit I am intrigued. There will always be "only $100 to upgrade" for new features, and all I really need - let's be honest here - is the phone. Sure it would be convenient to have google maps at my finger tips - especially when I'm on the road, but it's not critical. I've got a complete set of Rand McNally maps in the car that get me where I'm going every time. The last 2 times I used Google Maps up here in the hinterlands of New England, the map put me on a dirt road that turned to a track and dumped me in a dead-end farmer's field. The road continued about 3/4 of a mile later, but there was no connection. I had to back out 1 mile of muddy track, go 8 miles around via various other roads to get where I was going

Maybe for city folk the iPhone makes sense. But not up here in the woods.

    *rant on*

Why didnt they announce this at the keynote? I based my purchase from
what they announced during the keynote since there was no new iPhone
news. They perfectly waited because I just missed the trade in date
by three days. They could have had my extra 100 but now have only
left me a bit pissed. Look at the time line. They screwed everyone
(myself) who tuned in on the keynote and based their purchases from
    that. Thanks Steve!!

    *rant off*

Anyhow not that I got that off my chest I'm happy to hear that you made it in time to get the upgrade offer.

I too gave up after no announcement at MacWorld -- fortunately, however, my parents stalled on upgrading their plan (we're on a legacy AT&T plan, before they merged with Cingular and before they became AT&T again) and el Jobso saved me -- I had waited since the launch day (2nd in line, Craigslisted it to get some money to pay for my own) for a 16gb.

In any case, hope you're enjoying yours as much as I'm enjoying mine Natali!
